A is to D: The Lot

Heather Phillipson

FLUX NIGHT 2013 Curated Project

Saturday, October 5 7 pm to midnight

Castleberry Hill Arts District

Situated on a disused parking lot, the video is projected before a suite of rental cars, referencing the drive-in movie theater. Seated within the vehicle, the viewer adopts the in-car position of the video’s camera. Shot inside a car-wash, a bathtub, Modernist buildings, and the human body, and combining pop music, internet footage, and the sound of internal monologue, A Is to D: The Lot undertakes an odyssey between language and architecture. Departing from two interchangeable words and two interchangeable locations, the mouth becomes the central byway, a cavity for language and sensual experience.
